Growth has been the default modus operandi for so long it is almost unspoken. This talk challenges 'growth-default' along with other 'defaults' that inform product and design: masculine default, northern hemisphere default, english defaults etc. It is a call to action to challenge the utility of defaults that inform our work. In this talk, Ruby will draw examples from across the globe and show products moving beyond our current paradigms as well as those stuck in default thinking, while arming you with the tools you need to think differently about product design. It will cover things big and small that we can all do to create better products that align with more inclusive values.

The regenerative way forward – with the use of responsible technology

The regenerative business is a concept and approach to business that goes beyond sustainability and aims to increase positive impacts on the environment, society, and the economy. It focuses on restoring, renewing, and revitalizing natural and social systems while generating long-term value for all stakeholders involved. Instead of asking ‘what do I gain from it’, take a regenerative approach and ask, ‘how can I contribute’.

We can use responsible digital technology to leverage more sustainable and regenerative solutions, and with regenerative leadership we can get people involved and engaged in this huge transition. Trine Plambech uses real-life examples to illustrate the huge potential in working strategically with regenerative leadership, digitalization and user behavior to leverage sustainable and regenerative transitions in companies.

As the Director of Digital Sustainability, and head of the business area Digital Sustainable Transition at the Alexandra Institute, Trine is regarded as a thought leader in the field. She is among the first professionals with an education in Regenerative Leadership. She is a dedicated innovation consultant, advisor, and keynote speaker. She has many years’ experiences in digitalization and sustainability, and has helped a wide range of public and private organizations develop strategies for their sustainable and digital transformation.

Workshop: Unlock the Power of Object-Oriented UX

This two-hour workshop will delve into the transformative realm of Object-Oriented UX (OOUX) – a critical element in the design process. In a world where traditional approaches slice up complexity by verbs, OOUX emerges as the game-changer, enabling designers to break down systems by nouns, aligning seamlessly with how developers think and enhancing collaboration across teams.

Key Highlights:

Rethinking Complexity: Challenge the conventional approach of tackling complexity in digital product design. Explore how OOUX offers a fresh perspective, promoting an iterative and holistic design process.

Objects Over Verbs: Learn the art of slicing through complexity by focusing on nouns rather than verbs. Understand how this shift leads to cohesive, user-centric experiences, steering clear of disjointed interfaces.

Collaborative Synergy: Discover how OOUX fosters enhanced collaboration between UX and development teams. Leverage the inherent object-oriented thinking shared by designers, developers, and end-users for a more streamlined and effective workflow.

Intuitiveness Redefined: Uncover the inherent human tendency to think in objects and how aligning your design process with this innate cognitive behavior makes user experiences more intuitive. Explore how OOUX can elevate the user experience by making it inherently relatable and user-friendly.

This workshop is your opportunity to grasp the missing ingredient in the design process and revolutionize your approach to digital product development.

Piotr Wójcik is a seasoned Freelance UX Designer riding the waves of creativity with over a decade of professional expertise in design and consulting. Piotr is based in Warsaw, Poland. This workshop will be based on his experience of working with the OOUX methodology.

Beyond the design realm Piotr is dedicated to advancing skills around Digital Wellbeing and Sustainable Productivity.

These days, preferences, habits, and psychological triggers fuel impulsive buying tendencies, and many mobile applications encourage this affecting, in the long term, not just how people behave but also the increasing consumerism. Some consequences of encouraging excessive shopping through digital applications raise ethical concerns, as some users may fall into a pattern of compulsive buying, leading to financial strain and adverse mental health effects. But how can we, as professionals, can start helping people to decrease this behavior? How can we influence people to change their behavior and be aware that a harmless "add to the basket" can cause more harm in the long run?

Encouraging excessive shopping through mobile applications

Our role as user experience designers is to help users to have a pleasant experience while using a digital product, offering, at the same time, an answer or a solution to a need.

In the last couple of years, while the technology advancement had a boom, the companies started to change their vision; alongside them, people’s behavior also began to change. Nowadays, preferences, habits, and psychological triggers fuel impulsive buying tendencies, and many mobile applications encourage this affecting, in the long term, not just how people behave but also the increasing consumerism.

Some consequences of encouraging excessive shopping through digital applications raise ethical concerns, as some users may fall into a pattern of compulsive buying, leading to financial strain and adverse mental health effects. But how can we, as professionals, can start helping people to decrease this behavior? How can we influence people to change their behavior and be aware that a harmless “add to the basket” can cause more harm in the long run?

There are answers to these questions that we can translate into tasks to perform.

Andreea Popescu from Romania, is a UX Designer, Product Manager, and Mentor, with over 8 years of experience. This talk is based on her own research project, fueled by a passion for trying to be more sustainable in her everyday life.
